The Cincinnati Reds reinstated catcher Devin Mesoraco after his suspension was served and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.
That move, along with recalling pitcher J.J. Hoover from Louisville, were completed prior to the finale of a four-game set with the Phillies.
Mesoraco originally received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine from Major League Baseball on Aug. 1 for making contact with an umpire. That ban was reduced to two games on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old catcher, who made his major league debut in 2011, is batting .221 with five homers and 14 RBI in 46 games with the Reds this season.
For Hoover, it will be his second call-up this year. He appeared in 17 games from April 25 to June 20, going 1-0 with a 3.00 earned run average.
