Experts question former Penn State president's 'I didn't know' defense

Penn State president Graham Spanier is on a media offensive to clear his name, but some are saying the story he's telling runs counter to his own reputation as a detail-oriented manager.

There are also doubts that a school president would take anything less than an active role in investigating a scandal that involved top university personnel.

Spanier is portraying himself as being on the sidelines as school officials fielded complaints about former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky showering with children. He says he didn't know the matters involved possible molestation.

But experts in university governance say that's not plausible. They also are raising questions about why he didn't ask critical questions when coach Joe Paterno and two others were called to testify before a grand jury.
