Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford had successful Tommy John surgery on his left elbow on Thursday, as per a statement from the club.

"Carl Crawford underwent a successful left elbow ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (Tommy John surgery) performed by Dr. James Andrews today In Pensacola, FL. We expect Carl to make a full recovery."

Crawford, 31, has played in just 31 games this season, hitting .282 with three home runs and 19 RBI. Crawford was placed on the 15-day disabled list on August 20 and will not play again this season.
