The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned pitcher Sam Demel to Triple-A Reno Wednesday, and selected the contract of pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

The 26-year-old Demel was recalled prior to Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins and picked up the loss, allowing a run in an inning of work. Over the course of his three-year career, Demel is 4-4 with a 4.95 ERA in 63 2/3 innings pitched.

Skaggs, 21, entered the year as the No. 3 prospect in the D'backs' organization. He was acquired by Arizona on Aug. 7, 2010 to complete a July 25 trade that sent pitcher Dan Haren to the LA Angels of Anaheim in exchange for pitchers Joe Saunders, Patrick Corbin and Rafael Rodriguez.
