The Boston Red Sox activated outfielder Daniel Nava and pitcher Vicente Padilla from the disabled list and optioned Danny Valencia to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.

A day after announcing outfielder Carl Crawford's impending Tommy John surgery, Nava returns from the DL.

Nava, who has been sidelined since July 28 due to a sprained left wrist, hit .251 with four homers and 27 RBI in 65 games before going down with injuries.

Valencia went 1-for-8 across four games with the Red Sox after he was acquired in a trade from the Minnesota Twins on Aug. 5.

Padilla is 4-1 with a 4.62 earned run average in 41 appearances for the Red Sox this season.
