The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled pitcher Daniel McCutchen from Triple-A Indianapolis and reinstated Chad Qualls from the bereavement list on Tuesday.

McCutchen has spent the entire 2012 campaign in the minors after appearing in 73 games last year for Pittsburgh. In 32 games for Indianapolis, McCutchen went 6-2 with a 3.05 earned run average.

Qualls, who landed on the three-day bereavement list Thursday because of a family illness, has appeared in 50 games this season for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Pirates.

Qualls has a 2-1 record with a 5.28 ERA this season.

To make room for McCutchen and Qualls on the roster, the Pirates optioned pitchers Kyle McPherson and Justin Wilson to Indianapolis.
