Catchings, Moore named Players of the Week in WNBA

Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx were named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for the period ending August 20.

Both women excelled in their return to WNBA action after they teamed up to help the U.S. women's basketball team to its fifth straight gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Catchings, the reigning league MVP, led Indiana to a 2-0 mark, recording a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards in the Fever's first game of the week against Washington before following with a 17-point, nine-board performance in a win over Atlanta.

Moore, who garnered WNBA Rookie of the Year honors a season ago while helping Minnesota to its first championship in franchise history, guided the Lynx to a 2-0 record for the week.

The University of Connecticut product poured in 17 points against Washington to start the week before a dominating 22-point, 10-rebound effort against Tulsa.

Other candidates for the Player of the Week were Atlanta's Angel McCoughtry, Chicago's Sylvia Fowles, and Washington's Matee Ajavon in the East, and, in the West, Los Angeles' Kristi Toliver, San Antonio's Becky Hammon, Seattle's Tanisha Wright and Tulsa's Glory Johnson.
