Red Sox acquire P Beato to complete Shoppach trade

Baltimore, MD – The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Pedro Beato from the New York Mets to complete an August 14 trade.

Beato is the player to be named later in the trade that sent catcher Kelly Shoppach to New York.

Beato, 25, allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings over seven games with the Mets this season.

Boston optioned Beato to Triple-A Pawtucket and transferred pitcher Scott Atchison to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
