The Pittsburgh Pirates reinstated reliever Juan Cruz from the 15-day disabled list and optioned pitcher Jared Hughes to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.

Cruz had been sidelined since mid-July with right shoulder inflammation. He gave up two runs and five hits in two rehab appearances with Double-A Altoona.

The 33-year-old Cruz was 1-1 with three saves and a 2.61 earned run average in 37 games this season prior to landing on the DL.

Hughes went 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 47 relief appearances for the Pirates.
