The Boston Red Sox signed outfielder Scott Podsednik among several roster moves Friday.

Podsednik hit .387 with a home run and seven RBI in 19 games for the Red Sox this season before being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31.

But he did not appear in a game for Arizona and was released by the club on August 2.

Boston also optioned outfielder Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Pawtucket and transferred outfielder Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list to the 60- day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster for Podsednik.

Kalish had a .203 average with three doubles and five RBI in 25 games this year, while Sweeney batted .260 with 19 doubles and 16 runs batted in through 63 contests for Boston before being placed on the DL with a fractured bone in his left hand on July 31.
