O's call up Johnson to start

The Baltimore Orioles recalled pitcher Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk and named him the starter for Wednesday's matchup against the Seattle Mariners.

Johnson made his major league debut with Baltimore on July 15 and allowed one earned run on one hit in 2.0 innings.

The 24-year-old right-hander will be making his first-career start against the Mariners, exactly 23 years to the day that his father, former O's pitcher Dave Johnson, made his first career major league start and picked up his first win in a complete game outing against the Minnesota Twins.

Baltimore also recalled pitcher Miguel Socolovich from Norfolk and placed infielder Ryan Flaherty on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 2, with a bacterial infection.

Flaherty, 25, made his major league debut with the O's this season and batted .205 with four home runs and 11 RBI over 60 games.

Socolovich has pitched to a 9.00 earned run average in four appearances over two seperate stints with the Orioles this season.
