Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Jim Thome will be out until September with a herniated disk, the club said Monday.

Thome, who had an epidural in Los Angeles on Thursday, was advised by doctors to not do any baseball activity for 30 days. He will be reassessed after that.

Acquired in a trade from Philadelphia, Thome is batting .261 with two home runs and six RBI in 18 games with the Orioles.
