San Diego, CA – Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza will be sidelined indefinitely amid recurring problems with his right elbow.
Garza was diagnosed with a stress reaction in the back of his right elbow on Monday.
His last game was against the Cardinals on July 21 when he came out of that game with cramping in his right triceps. He then had a bullpen session on Saturday in Los Angeles, but felt stiffness on Sunday and was sent back to Chicago.
The 28-year-old is 5-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 18 starts this year, his seventh in the majors.
