London, England – Patrick Mills drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift Australia to an 82-80 win over Russia in the men's basketball tournament.
The Russians had taken an 80-79 lead when Vitaliy Fridzon hit two free throws with 4.1 seconds remaining. But Mills took a feed from Joe Ingles at the top of the key and sank the game-winning shot for Australia (3-2), which advanced to the quarterfinals as the fourth-place finisher in Group B and will face the United States on Wednesday.
Ingles led Australia with 20 points, while Mills and teammate David Andersen finished with 13 points apiece.
Sasha Kaun had 18 points and six rebounds for the Russians (4-1), who had already locked up the top spot in Group B. Russia will take on Lithuania in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Andrei Kirilenko and Alexey Shved both scored 13 points in defeat.
