The Toronto Blue Jays optioned pitcher Brett Cecil to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Cecil, who was sent to Double-A New Hampshire at the outset of this season, went 2-4 with a 5.72 earned run average in nine starts from June 17-August 3.

He allowed nine hits and four runs in just five innings in a Friday start, which eventually went to Oakland, 5-4, in 15 innings.

Toronto also designated pitcher Andrew Carpenter for assignment and recalled both pitcher Jesse Chavez and infielder Adeiny Hechavarria from Las Vegas.

Carpenter appeared in six games for the Jays this season, failing to record a decision and pitching to a 5.00 ERA.

Chavez was 0-1 with an 8.85 ERA in eight games (two starts) with Toronto in 2012. He has gone 8-3 with a 3.72 ERA in 15 games, all but one starts, for Las Vegas this year.
