The Washington Nationals acquired catcher Kurt Suzuki and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for catcher David Freitas on Friday.

Suzuki hit .218 with 15 doubles, one home run and 18 RBI in 75 games for Oakland this season.

The 28-year old has spent his entire six-year career with the A's and is a career .254 hitter with 134 doubles, 57 homers and 302 runs batted in over 703 games.

Freitas, who has yet to appear in the majors, hit .271 with 22 doubles, five home runs and 46 RBI in 78 games for Single-A Potomac this year.

Washington selected him in the 15th round of the 2010 draft.
