Indians designate Damon for assignment

The Cleveland Indians designated veteran outfielder Johnny Damon for assignment on Friday.

Damon, signed by the Indians on April 17, hit .222 with six doubles, two triples, four home runs and 19 RBI in 64 games.

The 38-year-old Damon has played in 2,490 career games with the Royals, Athletics, Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers, Rays and Indians, batting .284 with 522 doubles, 235 homers and 1,139 RBI.

Cleveland recalled outfielder Ezequiel Carrera from Triple-A Columbus to take Damon's spot on the roster.

Carrera hit .294 with 65 runs scored, 19 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 42 RBI in 97 games for Columbus this year.
