Fiorentina signs Aquilani from Liverpool

Fiorentina signed Italy midfielder Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool on Friday.

Aquilani, 28, joined Liverpool in the summer of 2009 on a five-year contract, but has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus and AC Milan. He played just 28 matches for Liverpool.

Capped 21 times for Italy, Aquilani began his career with Roma. He played for the club from 2002-09, with the exception of a loan to Triestina, until moving to England in 2009.

Aquilani enjoyed successful spells with Juve and Milan, combining to make 55 appearances over the last two seasons.

Fiorentina also added defender Gonzalo Rodriguez and midfielder Borja Valero from Villarreal. Rodriguez has yet to agree to terms of his deal, but Valero - capped once for Spain - has signed a four-year deal.
