Yankees ship Qualls to Pirates for McGehee

The New York Yankees have acquired Casey McGehee and cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for veteran reliever Chad Qualls.

By adding McGehee, the Yankees filled an immediate need at the corner infield positions. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is out with a fractured left hand, while first baseman Mark Teixeira is battling a left wrist injury.

McGehee batted .230 with eight home runs and 35 RBI in 92 games with the Pirates this season.

Qualls compiled a 6.14 ERA in eight games for the Yankees after being obtained from the Philadelphia Phillies on July 1.
