London, England – With another strong kick, China's Ye Shiwen won the women's 200-meter individual medley Tuesday night for her second gold medal of the London Olympics.
Ye, 16, was third at the final turn but surged on the freestyle lap to beat Australian Alicia Coutts. American Caitlin Leverenz won bronze.
Ye won the 400 IM on Saturday, smashing Stephanie Rice's world record by more than a second in a race that has been a topic of conversation here for days.
The teenager's last lap split was faster than men's 400 IM winner Ryan Lochte's, prompting an American official with the World Swimming Coaches Association to tell a London newspaper that it was "impossible" without doping. American Elizabeth Beisel won silver in the race.
