Missy Franklin, the 17-year-old rising American swimming star, won her first Olympic gold medal Monday night in the 100-meter backstroke.
She did it after swimming in another race just minutes earlier.
Meanwhile, Ryan Lochte finished off the podium for the first time with a fourth in the 200 freestyle and American Matthew Grevers won gold in the men's 100 back.
Yannick Agnel, a hero for France the night before, won his second gold in two days after leading the men's 200 free wire-to-wire. China's Sun Yang and South Korea's Park Tae-hwan tied for the silver.
Franklin, who won the 100 back at U.S. trials, set an American record with a time of 58.33 seconds to beat Emily Seebohm of Australia by .35 seconds. Japan's Aya Terakawa was third.
