The Toronto Blue Jays placed J.P. Arencibia on the 15-day disabled list after the catcher suffered a fractured right hand during Wednesday's 16-0 loss to the Athletics.

Arencibia took a foul tip off his throwing hand in the second inning and is expected to miss up to six weeks.

The 26-year-old is batting .242 with 16 homers and 50 RBI this season.

The Blue Jays also optioned reliever Chad Beck to Triple-A Las Vegas and recalled pitchers Joel Carreno and Evan Crawford from the same club.
