The Arizona Diamondbacks, just hours after designating Ryan Roberts for assignment, traded the infielder to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league infielder Tyler Bortnick.

Roberts, 31, hit .252 with nine doubles, six home runs and 33 RBI in 82 games with Arizona this season. He appeared in 372 games over four seasons with the Diamondbacks and hit .254 with 34 homers and 133 RBI.

Bortnick, 25, has played the 2012 season at Double-A Montgomery and hit .253 with four home runs and 48 RBI in 95 games.
