Padres extend OF Quentin through 2015

The San Diego Padres agreed to a three-year contract extension with outfielder Carlos Quentin through the 2015 season with a mutual option for the 2016 season.

"We are very pleased to extend Carlos' contract," Padres executive vice president and general manager Josh Byrnes said. "He provides a real threat in the middle of our lineup and brings an intensity and edge to our club. As a San Diegan, he is very invested in the success of the Padres."

The 29-year-old Quentin has hit .273 this season with nine home runs and 22 RBI in 40 games for the Padres this season.

The Padres acquired the two-time All-Star in a trade with the Chicago White Sox last December.

In seven seasons with Diamondbacks, White Sox and Padres, Quentin has hit .253 with 130 home runs and 405 RBI in 656 games.
