Flushing, NY – The New York Mets have designated veteran pitcher Miguel Batista for assignment and recalled right-hander Elvin Ramirez from Triple-A Buffalo.
The 41-year-old Batista compiled a 1-3 record with a 4.82 earned run average in 30 games (five starts) for the Mets this season. He had allowed nine runs -- eight earned -- on 15 hits and nine walks in 8 2/3 innings this month.
Ramirez, 24, joins the Mets for the second time this year. He went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in five games during his first stint in the majors from June 1-22.
Over 29 combined games with Double-A Binghamton and Buffalo, Ramirez had a 1.99 ERA and recorded 43 strikeouts.
