Fred converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute for his sixth goal of the season as Fluminense downed Ponte Preta, 2-1, on Sunday to remain unbeaten through 11 matches in the Brasileiro.

Thiago Neves staked Fluminense to the lead before halftime, but Ferron notched the equalizer 7 minutes from time for Ponte Preta to put the streak in doubt. Fred assured Fluminense its seventh win, as he converted at the death.

Fluminense remained three points off the summit in third, as Atletico Mineiro and Vasco da Gama both won Saturday.

Ronaldinho scored his fourth goal of the season as Atletico Mineiro maintained the top spot with its sixth straight win, 4-1, at Sport Recife, and Vasco is two points back as Douglas and Alecsandro scored in a 2-0 win over Santos.

Corinthians and Portuguesa tied 1-1 in Saturday's other match.
