The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated reliever Takashi Saito from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, enabling him to make his season debut.
The 42-year-old had been sidelined from the outset of the year with a strained right medial calf. He made four appearances at Triple-A Reno in early June, going 0-1 with a 10.12 earned run average.
Upon his first game action this season, Saito will become the first pitcher of Japanese descent in franchise history.
To make room on the roster, the D-Backs optioned Jonathan Albaladejo to Reno. The 29-year-old hurler gave up three earned runs in three innings in three games this season for Arizona.
