The Los Angeles Galaxy will attempt to reverse their Super Clasico fortunes on Saturday when they square off against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center.
Los Angeles has dominated the Super Clasico since Chivas entered Major League Soccer in 2004, producing an all-time record of 16-4-6 record against the Goats across all competitions.
But Robin Fraser's men pulled off a rare victory over their city rivals, claiming a 1-0 victory on May 19 thanks to a second-half penalty kick from Jose Correa.
The Goats are riding a solid four-game unbeaten streak, taking eight points over that stretch.
While goalkeeper Dan Kennedy has been at the heart of the impressive run by helping Chivas keep three consecutive clean sheets, Fraser was quick to disperse credit to the entire defensive unit.
"Our goals against is pretty decent," Fraser told MLSsoccer.com. "Obviously that's not just going to be attributable to Dan. The group as a whole has been working hard and working well.
"Much like everything else in soccer, individual accolades really are a reflection of people that you have around you. It's very rare you have someone get an individual accolade in soccer and it has nothing to do with the people around you."
Chivas has allowed 18 goals through as many games this season, the fewest in MLS, but the defense will need to be on top of its game Saturday as it goes up against a potent Los Angeles attack.
The Galaxy have scored nine goals over their past three games, most recently coming from behind to earn a point in a 2-2 draw at Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
"I think two months ago we wouldn't have been able to come back from a two- goal deficit," David Beckham said after the match. "But we've got character over the last couple of months and back into our team."
Goalkeeper Josh Saunders played a major role in helping the Galaxy obtain a point, producing some fine saves late on to keep his side in the match.
"It's the fact that our team just believes all the way through the game," Saunders said. "The guys played extremely well and we fought really hard through to the end of the game and I was able to come up with a couple saves. I wish I'd come up with the first one but that's just the way it goes. I can't say enough about the guys coming and fighting back for us."
