West Ham announced on Wednesday that the club has completed the signing of striker Modibo Maiga from Sochaux on a four- year contract.
Maiga joins the Hammers for an undisclosed fee and his deal includes the option of a further two years at Upton Park.
Newcastle attempted to sign Maiga last year, but he instead becomes the fifth new addition to Sam Allardyce's team, joining Mohamed Diame, George McCartney, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson.
"I am really happy and excited about joining West Ham United," Maiga told the club's official website.
"I know West Ham are a big club in England and I'm really looking forward to representing them.
"They have huge tradition and it is like joining part of a family, and that is one of the main reasons that I wanted to come here."
The 24-year-old tallied nine goals in 23 Ligue 1 games for Sochaux last season.
