New York, NY –  Major League Baseball announced the results of the first-ever Competitive Balance Lottery on Wednesday.

The lottery, which was agreed to as a part of the 2012-2016 Basic Agreement between MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association, gives clubs with the lowest revenues and in the smallest markets the opportunity to obtain extra picks.

The Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins will receive a draft pick following the first round of the First-Year Player Draft.

The San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers will receive a pick after the second round.

The 10 clubs with the smallest revenues and the 10 clubs in the smallest markets were entered into a lottery to receive one of the six selections following the first round of the First-Year Player Draft. Teams that did not receive a pick were entered into a second lottery for one of six picks following the second round.

The Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, San Diego Padres and the Tampa Bay rays were the 13 clubs eligible for the lottery. The Detroit Tigers were added to the pool of teams eligible for round two.

A club's odds of winning the lottery were based on its prior season's winning percentage.
