London, England – Estonian Kaia Kanepi and German Andrea Petkovic have pulled out of the upcoming London Olympic Games due to injuries.
The 16th-ranked Kanepi was also forced to skip the recently-concluded Wimbledon event because of a heel injury, while the world No. 18 Petkovic is sidelined with a ankle problem that forced her to miss the French Open and Wimbledon.
The 27-year-old Kanepi, who's won a pair of titles on the WTA this year, said she is "very sad" about the withdrawal and is not sure if she'll "ever get another chance to attend the Olympics."
Kanepi played in the 2008 Games in Beijing and 2004 Olympics in Athens.
"Really sorry to announce that I will not be competing at the Olympic Games," the 24-year-old Bosnian-born Petkovic said on her Twitter feed. "I'm heartbroken and sad as can be but I'm just not ready yet."
The 2012 Olympic tennis event will be held at the All England Club, the venerable site of the Wimbledon Championships.
