Jackson State student-athlete Vincent Jones died Monday evening at the University of Mississippi Medical Center following a battle against cancer, the university announced.
Jones, a Jackson native, was a member of the football program. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound offensive lineman enrolled at Jackson State University as a freshman last fall.
"Vincent was a wonderful young man," coach Rick Comegy said. "He was well liked by everyone in the football program and he will truly be missed."
The Tigers, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will play the 2012 season in honor of Vincent.
