The New York Yankees activated pitcher CC Sabathia from the 15-day disabled list to start Tuesday's game against Toronto.
Sabathia had been on the DL since June 27 with a Grade 1 groin strain, and, due to the All-Star break, had missed only a pair of scheduled starts.
In 15 games this season, Sabathia has fashioned a 9-3 record with a 3.45 ERA. He has thrown one complete game. With two more wins this year, Sabathia will record at least 11 victories in each of his first 12 seasons in the majors. He would become one of four pitchers in the modern era (since 1900) to accomplish the feat, joining Don Sutton (first 17 seasons, 1966-82), Eddie Plank (first 16 seasons, 1901-16) and Tom Seaver (first 13 seasons, 1967-79).
Sabathia has been a work horse, having thrown at least 100 pitches in each of his last 23 regular season starts.
To make room on the roster, the Yankees designated recently acquired outfielder Darnell McDonald for assignment.
