Rockies place hospitalized Nelson on DL in bevy of roster moves

The Colorado Rockies placed infielders Chris Nelson and Jonathan Herrera on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday during a litany of roster moves.

The 26-year-old Nelson was admitted to a local hospital on Monday while he underwent tests for an irregular heartbeat. He is resting comfortably and was placed on the disabled list for the second time this season. In 58 games this season, he has posted a .256 batting average with five home runs and 23 runs batted.

The 27-year-old Herrera is visiting a local hospital for follow up treatment to an infection in his left wrist. He is also making his second trip to the disabled list this season, while sporting a .246 batting average with three home runs and six RBI over 45 games this season. Both moves are retroactive to July 16.

To fill the two roster spots, the Rockies recalled infielder DJ LeMahieu from Triple-A Colorado Springs and selected the contract of outfielder Andrew Brown from the same club. LeMahieu spent a month with the Rockies earlier this season, batting .216 with a pair of runs batted in, while the 27-year-old Brown is heading to the big-league club after an All-Star first half for Triple-A Colorado Springs.

In another roster move, the team transferred pitcher Juan Nicasio from the 15- day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
