Phillies activate Halladay to start

Los Angeles, CA – The Philadelphia Phillies activated ace Roy Halladay from the 15-day disabled list and he turned in five innings in Tuesday's 3-2 win against the Dodgers.

Halladay was placed on the DL on May 29 due to a right latissimus dorsi strain. Two days earlier, the right-hander left his start against the Cardinals.

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said Halladay would be limited to around 80 pitches. That's exactly how many the two-time Cy Young Award winner threw, 55 of which were for strikes. Halladay had six strikeouts and didn't walk a batter, while allowing five hits, including four in a row during a two-run second inning for the Dodgers.

"I felt good. Things improved from my rehab starts," Halladay said. "I wanted to go more than five innings. It's a matter of repeating my mechanics, timing and trying to make pitches. I feel like I can contribute and give us a chance."

So far this season, Halladay is 4-5 with a 3.96 ERA in 12 starts. He didn't get a decision Tuesday.

Pitcher Brian Sanches was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He was 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA in six relief appearances for the Phillies this year.
