Serena Williams (Saginaw, Mich.) won her second-straight Bank of the West Classic title on July 15 after beating Coco Vandeweghe (New York, N.Y.), 7-5, 6-3, in Stanford, Calif. Williams advanced to the final round after defeating Channelle Scheepers (South Africa), 6-4, 6-0, and Sorana Cirstea (Romania), 6-1, 6-2.

U.S. MEN CLAIM PAN AMERICAN CUP TITLE

The U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team defeated Argentina, 29-27, 25-20, 25-11, to win the Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on July 14. Earlier in the week, Team USA outlasted the Dominican Republic, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-12, to advance to the final game.

BASEBALL

The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team defeated Japan, 4-1, and Cuba, 5-2, in the opening games of the Harlem Honkbal week in Harlem, N.Y.

BASKETBALL

The U.S. Men's National Team rolled over the Dominican Republican, 113-59, in an exhibition game on July 12 in Las Vegas. On Monday, Team USA upended a tough Brazil team, 80-69.

CANOE/KAYAK

London-bound kayaker Caroline Queen (Darnestown, Md.) placed ninth at the Junior Under-23 Slalom World Championships on July 8 in Wausau, Wis.

ROWING

Seven U.S. crews posted first-place finishes at the 2012 Senior World Championship Trials on July 11 in West Windsor, N.J. Among the winners were lightweight rowers Will Daly (Vail, Colo.) and partner Greg Flood (Tulsa Okla.), and men's single sculls rower Andrew Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.).

The U.S. men's and women's eights brought home gold medals to cap off racing at the 2012 World Rowing Under-23 Championships on July 15 in Trakai, Lithuania. Both the men's and women's squads edged-out Germany to claim their titles. One day earlier, the U.S. men's four with coxswain earned the silver medal.

SQUASH

U.S. junior squash athletes fell to England, 2-0, in the quarterfinal match of the 2012 World Junior Squash Championships in Doha, Qatar, on July 16. Earlier in the week, Team USA defeated Kuwait, 2-0, France, 3-0, Guatemala, 3-0, and Brazil, 3-0.

SOFTBALL

The U.S. Women's National Softball Team held Puerto Rico scoreless en route to its 13-0 victory on July 15 at the ISF World Championships in Whitehorse, Yuk. With earlier wins over the Czech Republic (10-0) and Venezuela (7-0), Team USA remains unbeaten in pool play.

SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

Junior national team members Lorraine Heck (Seattle, Wash.) and Sandra Ortellado (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took second in the duet competition at the Hungarian Open in Budapest, Hungary, on July 10. Hack also finished third in the figures competition.

TENNIS

John Isner (Greensboro, N.C.) became the first person to win consecutive Hall of Fame Tennis Championship titles after defeating Lleyton Hewitt, 7-6 (1), 6-4, on July 15 in Newport, R.I. Earlier in the week, Isner defeated Ryan Harrison (Shreveport, La.), 7-6 (4), 6-3, and South Africa's Izak Van Der Merwe, 6-4, 7-6 (2).

TRACK AND FIELD

Team USA collected multiple medals at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, as Gunnar Nixon (Edmon, Oka.) earned gold and set an American junior record in the men's decathlon on July 11. Additionally, team USA swept gold in the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay.

TRIATHLON

Loukas Verzbicas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sprinted his way to a sixth-place finish at the world cup in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary, on July 15.

William Huffman (Colleyville, Texas) and Tony Smoragiewicz (Rapid City, S.D.) crossed the finish line first and second at the Tiszaujvaros Junior European Cup on July 15 in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary.

VOLLEYBALL

Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) scored 22 points to lead the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team past Colombia 25-27, 25-21, 25-13, 25-17, on July 15 at the Pan American Cup in Juarez, Mexico.

The Women's National Team closed out the Bulgaria Challenge Series with a 5-0 record, defeating Bulgaria, 22-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11, on July 14 in Anaheim, Calif.

The U.S. beach volleyball team of Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) took second at the Grand Slam Berlin after falling to Brazil's Emanuel Rego and Alison Cerutti on July 14. On the women's side, Jen Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) finished fifth.

SITTING VOLLEYBALL

The U.S. Women's Sitting Volleyball Team lost exhibition games to China, 25-12, 26-24, 25-22, and the Ukraine, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23, on July 14 in Shanghai.

WATER SKI

U.S. water ski athlete Todd Ristorcelli (Orlando, Fla.) won the fifth event of the 2012 Nautique Big Dawg World Tour, presented by O'Brien, on July 15 in Abbotsford, B.C.

WRESTLING

U.S. junior wrestlers earned six first-place finishes at the Cadet Pan American Freestyle competition in Venezuela on July 15.
