Bronx, NY – The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder Jose Bautista on the 15-day disabled list with a left wrist injury.
Bautista was hurt during the eighth inning of Monday's game against the New York Yankees while hitting a long foul ball. He immediately grabbed his wrist after the follow-through of the swing and left the contest.
X-rays were negative and the Blue Jays said the All-Star slugger has wrist inflammation.
Bautista, the AL's home run leader each of the past two years, is second this year with 27. He has also driven in 65 runs and is batting .244 in 90 games.
The Blue Jays filled the roster spot by purchasing the contract of outfielder Anthony Gose from Triple-A Las Vegas. The 21-year-old Gose is batting .293 with five homers, 41 runs batted in and 29 stolen bases for Las Vegas this season.
