Brooklyn, NY – The busy Brooklyn Nets have landed six-time All Star guard Joe Johnson in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks involving a total of six players and two draft picks.
The deal, widely reported last week, was made official on Wednesday after the NBA's moratorium on signing free agents and making trades expired.
The Nets traded forward DeShawn Stevenson to the Hawks along with the expiring contracts of guards Jordan Farmar and Anthony Morrow and centers Johan Petro and Jordan Williams as well as a second-round draft pick in 2017 and Houston's 2013 first-round pick.
Johnson is owed around $90 million over the next four seasons and it's unclear where his joining the team leaves the Nets in the sweepstakes to land Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.
The Nets re-signed star point guard Deron Williams to a reported five-year, $98 million deal shortly after midnight and also brought back forward Gerald Wallace on Wednesday with a reported four-year, $40 million pact.
Johnson, an All Star in each of the last six seasons, has seen his numbers dip slightly in the past several years. He averaged 18.8 points, 3.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 60 games this past season.
He also shot just 25 percent from three-point range in a first-round playoff loss to the Celtics.
