U.S. players earned three Wimbledon titles, with Serena Williams (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) leading the way in women's singles on July 7 in Wimbledon, England. Williams also partnered with sister Venus Williams (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) to earn their fifth Wimbledon doubles title together. Mike Bryan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) also scored a title by partnering with Lisa Raymond (Wayne, Pa.) to win the mixed doubles event on July 8.
TEAM USA SWEEP
Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) captured their second FIVB World Tour beach volleyball event in a row with a win over No. 2 seed Brazil on July 8 at the Gstaad Grand Slam in Switzerland. Misty May- Treanor (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Kerri Walsh (San Jose, Calif.) won the women's competition with a victory over the Netherlands on July 7.
BADMINTON
Team USA athletes captured three medals at the 2012 U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships on July 7 in Orange, Calif. Tony Gunawan (West Covina, Calif.) and Vita Marissa of Indonesia captured the gold medal in mixed doubles, while Howard Bach (San Francisco, Calif.) and Eva Lee (Orange Calif.) combined for the bronze. Together, Bach and Gunawan secured the bronze medal in men's doubles.
BASEBALL
The U.S. Collegiate National Team scored a win over Cuba, 4-3, on July 5 in Havana.
BASKETBALL
Team USA captured the FIBA U17 World Championship title with a win over Australia, 95-62, on July 8 in Kaunas, Lithuania. The U.S. went undefeated (8-0) throughout the tournament.
CYCLING
USA Cycling awarded several national titles at the 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-Country National Championships, held July 5-8, in Sun Valley, Idaho. Sam Schultz (Missoula, Mont.) and Georgia Gould (Fort Collins, Colo.) earned the pro men's and women's cross-country titles, while Todd Wells (Durango, Colo.) and Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt.) won the short track cross-country pro races. Adam Craig (Bend, Ore.) and Kelli Emmett (Plymouth, Mich.) scored the pro super D victories, while David Poole (Bozeman, Mt.) won the handcycling short track cross-country race.
Eight U.S. cyclists scored victories at the UCI Para Cycling Road World Cup in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, July 6-8. Each cyclist recorded wins in both the road race and time trial of his or her respective class.
EQUESTRIAN
Lauren Hough (Wellington, Fla.), riding Ohlala, captured the Youngsters Cup Finale title and overall standings lead on July 7 in Lexington, Ky.
Beezie Madden (Cazenovia, N.Y.), riding Mademoiselle, won the Laforge Cup on July 7 in Calgary, Alta.
GYMNASTICS
Kalon Ludvigson (Pocatello, Idaho) won his seventh consecutive U.S. men's tumbling title at the U.S. Elite Championships for trampoline and tumbling on July 7 in Long Beach, Calif. Marina Moskalenko (Orlando, Fla.) won the women's tumbling title.
SAILING
Mitchell Kiss (Holland, Mich.) won the bronze medal at the 2012 Laser Radial Youth World Championships held June 29-July 4 in Brisbane, Australia.
SHOOTING
Rachael Heiden (Clinton, Mich.) and Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, Calif.) claimed the top podium spots at the 2012 Men's and Women's Trap National Championship on July 8 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Billy Crawford (Johnstown, Ohio) won the men's double trap national title at the USA Shooting National Championships for Shotgun on July 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
SOFTBALL
The U.S. Women's National Team defeated the Australia, 2-0, on July 8 to earn a spot in the finals of the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C. The team went a perfect 6-0 in round-robin play, recording four shutouts.
TABLE TENNIS
Juan Liu (N.Y.) captured the women's single title at the 2012 U.S. Open held June 30-July 4 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Lily Zhang (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Ariel Hsing (San Jose, Calif.) finished one-two in the U-21 women's single event.
TRACK & FIELD
Ashton Eaton (Bend, Ore.) used a world-record performance in the decathlon and Allyson Felix (Los Angeles, Calif.) rode a career best time in the 200-meter during the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field to overtake first place and win the 2012 Visa Championship Series outdoor titles announced July 6. Eaton won with a total of 1,270 points, while Felix notched her victory with 1,252 points.
Tyson Gay (Lexington, Ky.) led Justin Gatlin (Pensacola, Fla.) to a one-two finish at the Diamond League stop in Paris on July 6. Chaunte Lowe (Riverside, Calif.) also claimed a victory for Team USA by clearing 1.97 meters on the high jump.
TRIATHLON
Team USA scored three top-eight finishes at the Edmonton ITU Triathlon World Cup on July 8. Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) led the way with the bronze- medal finish, while Manuel Huerta (Miami, Fla.) and Lindsey Jerdonek (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) took fifth and eighth places.
VOLLEYBALL
The U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team was awarded the 2012 FIVB World League silver medal on July 8 in Sofia, Bulgaria, after falling to Poland in the championship match, 25-17, 26-24, 25-20.
WATER POLO
The U.S. women's water polo team capped a four-game sweep of Hungary with a 9-4 victory on July 8 in Newport Beach, Calif.
