The Boston Red Sox released pitcher Bobby Jenks on Tuesday.

Jenks, 31, has spent the entire 2012 season on the 60-day disabled list while recovering from back surgery. He was limited to 19 appearances last season with Boston after signing a two-year contract with the team in December of 2010.

He had three separate stints on the DL last season and went 2-2 with a 6.32 earned run average and 17 strikeouts.

In 348 career appearances with the Chicago White Sox (2005-10) and Boston, Jenks has posted a 3.53 ERA with 173 saves.
