Herman moves 2 clear in Wichita

Wichita, KS – Jim Herman fired a 7-under 64 on Friday to take a 2-stroke lead after two rounds of the Wichita Open.

Herman, the 2010 Moonah Classic winner, finished 36 holes at 12-under-par 130.

Joseph Bramlett also had a 64 to soar into a share of second place at minus-10. He was joined there by Robert Damron, who carded a 6-under 65 on the North Course at Crestview Country Club.

First-round leader Casey Wittenberg managed a 1-under 70 to slip into a tie for fourth at 9-under-par 133. He stands alongside Kevin Johnson (68), Jason Gore (68), Scott Gardiner (67), Brice Garnett (66) and Hudson Swafford (66).

Herman, who missed the cut at the U.S. Open last week, opened with a birdie on the first, then parred the next four holes before carding his second birdie of the day on the par-4 sixth.

After four more pars, Herman picked up a shot at the 11th to start a stretch of five birdies in a row. He followed with a birdie on No. 12 and made it three in a row with a 25-foot birdie putt at the 13th.

The 34-year-old birdied the 14th to get to 11-under and converted his fifth consecutive birdie chance at No. 15, where he drained an 8-footer. He parred his last three to end there.

"I really wasn't very happy with my effort at Olympic last week. I hit some sloppy shots and knew I could play better than that. Today, I knew everything was going along pretty well because my putter was really working," Herman said.

"Overall, I'll take another bogey-free round today and move on to the weekend. I just want to keep doing what I do and that's hitting a lot of greens. Sometimes I struggle doing that."

Damron also had a stellar run of golf as he poured in four consecutive birdies from the second to jump to minus-8. He traded a birdie for a bogey from the eighth and again from the 11th.

The 39-year-old, who has one win on both the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour, birdied the 14th and 18th, both par-5s, to grab a piece of second at 10-under.

Bramlett got off to a slow start with one birdie and seven pars through his first eight holes. Birdies on the ninth and 11th got him to minus-6.

The 24-year-old ran off three straight birdies from the 14th. He closed with a birdie at the last to share second.

Bramlett took second in Chile, but hasn't finished better than tied for 18th otherwise.

NOTES: The cut line fell at 4-under 138 with 65 players moving on to the weekend...Among those who missed the cut were Lee Williams and James Hahn, who are fifth and sixth on the tour's money list; Paul Stankowski; Sam Saunders; Peter Lonard; Brett Wetterich; Woody Austin; and Nicholas Thompson, who tied for 51st at the U.S. Open last week.
