New York, NY – Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that Hall of Famer George Brett and five-time All-Star Bernie Williams were selected to manage the All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City.
Brett will manage the U.S. Team while Williams, a native of Puerto Rico, will lead the World Team.
The game will be played on Sunday, July 8 at Kauffman Stadium and will feature top minor league prospects.
Brett, who played his entire 21-year career in Kansas City, is the only Royal enshrined in baseball's Hall of Fame. He amassed 3,154 hits and 317 home runs in his career, which was highlighted by winning the 1985 World Series. Brett made 13 All-Star teams and won the 1980 American League MVP award.
Williams played 16 years, all with the Yankees, where he won four World Series. Williams hit .297 in his career with 2,336 hits and 287 home runs. Williams was a five-time All-Star and took home four Gold Gloves for his stellar work in center field.
Rosters for the Futures Game will be announced Thursday afternoon.
The U.S. Team has won seven times in the 13-year history of the event, which helps kickstart Major League Baseball All-Star festivities.
