Redknapp out as Tottenham boss

Tottenham has fired manager Harry Redknapp after nearly four years in charge of the club.

The 65-year-old took charge of Spurs in October 2008 with the team sitting on the bottom of the league table. But just one season later, Redknapp helped Tottenham qualify for the Champions League, where the club reached the quarterfinals.

Redknapp was heavily linked with the England national team job over the past few months, but the FA ultimately went with West Bromwich manager Roy Hodgson, and now Redknapp is out at Spurs.

"This is not a decision the board and I have taken lightly," club chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement.

Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League this past season after winning just four times in its final 12 games. And even though Spurs finished fourth, which would have been enough to qualify, the club was bumped from its spot after Chelsea won the competition.

"I have had a fantastic four years with the club, at times the football has been breathtaking. I am sad to be leaving," Redknapp said.
