The Tampa Bay Rays placed designated hitter Luke Scott on the 15-day disabled list Friday with back spasms.

The 33-year-old Scott is hitting .220 with nine homers and 35 RBI in 51 games this season.

A torn right labrum ended Scott's 2011 campaign with Baltimore in July.

The Florida native has batted .261 with 121 home runs and 376 RBI in 753 career games with Houston, Baltimore and Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay recalled pitcher Brandon Gomes from Triple-A Durham to take Scott's place on the roster. Gomes, who is making his second stint with the Rays this year, was 4-0 with six saves and a 0.39 earned run average in 18 relief appearances with Durham.
