Three days after being released by the Colorado Rockies, the Baltimore Orioles signed 49-year-old left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer to a minor league contract.
Moyer, who is the oldest starting pitcher to win a game in major league history, was 2-5 with a 5.70 earned run average in 10 appearances for the Rockies this year. He dropped three of his last four starts and gave up 13 earned runs and 16 hits over 8 2/3 innings in his last two outings.
Prior to this season, Moyer last pitched in 2010 for the Philadelphia Phillies, posting a 9-9 record with a 4.84 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 20 walks in 19 starts. He had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow following the 2010 season and missed all of 2011.
In his 25-year career, Moyer has 269 wins and a 4.25 ERA to go along with 2,441 strikeouts and 1,155 walks.
He is scheduled to start Saturday for Triple-A Norfolk at Buffalo.
