Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton has been unanimously voted the National League Player of the Month for May.
In 29 games during May, Stanton tied a franchise-record for home runs (12) and knocked in 30 runs, while hitting .343 and slugging .769.
The only other player under the age of 23 to compile as many homers and RBI while holding that high of an average in a single month was Joe DiMaggio in July of 1937 when he hit 15 homers with 43 RBI and a .430 average at age 22.
The 22-year-old right fielder knocked out a section of the Marlins scoreboard with a majestic grand slam against the Colorado Rockies on May 21 and belted a game-winning grand slam against the New York Mets on May 23.
His power surge helped the Marlins set a franchise-record for wins in a month, as their 21-8 record has Miami within one game of first place in the NL East.
It is the first career monthly award for Stanton and first for a Marlin since Emilio Bonifacio in July 2011.
