Uncasville, CT – Tina Charles poured in a game-high 30 points to go with nine rebounds, lifting the Connecticut Sun to a 94-86 victory over the Washington Mystics Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Kara Lawson added 18 points and Asjha Jones chipped in 10 points for the Sun, who opened the season 3-0 before an 85-72 loss to the defending champion Minnesota Lynx on Friday.
Crystal Langhorne paced the Washington attack with 25 points, Jasmine Thomas followed with 17 points and Noelle Quinn scored 10 as the Mystics dropped their 11th consecutive road game.
The Sun held a 23-15 advantage after the first 10 minutes, but shot just 26.7 percent in the second quarter as the Mystics took a 35-34 edge at halftime.
The third quarter belonged to the Sun, who shot a blistering 78.6 percent from the field and outscored the Mystics by 10 in the frame to take a nine-point lead into the final frame.
Matee Ajavon's three-pointer had the Mystics within 78-75 with two minutes left, but the Sun connected on all 14 of their free throws down the stretch to hang on for the victory.
