The Baltimore Orioles announced Friday that they have placed outfielder Nick Markakis on the 15-day disabled list and selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Bill Hall from Triple-A Norfolk.

Markakis underwent surgery on Friday to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right hand, which will force the 28-year-old to the DL for the first time in his career. The move is retroactive to May 30.

The seven-year veteran is batting .256 with eight home runs and 26 RBI in 50 games for the O's this season.

Hall will be joining the Orioles for the second time this year after hitting .286 with one homer and four walks in six games with the club earlier this season.

To make room for Hall on the 40-man roster, infielder Brian Roberts was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
