D.C. United midfielder Dwayne De Rosario was named the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for May on Thursday.
De Rosario had four goals and two assists in six matches in May, as United won four matches to climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings. The 2011 league MVP has five goals and a league-high eight assists this season.
The 34-year-old De Rosario opened the month of May with a goal and two assists in a 5-3 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes, then scored a goal in a win against the Colorado Rapids, and had two more in a win over former team Toronto FC.
De Rosario was named player of the week for the third time in his career, with the first in 2005 and the second last season.
San Jose Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon finished second in the voting.
