PITTSBURGH — When the Pittsburgh Steelers told tight end David Johnson they wanted to move him to fullback full time this season, Johnson told coach Mike Tomlin he'd do whatever is necessary to stay with the team.
The way Johnson looked at it, the move cleared up the confusion he felt last season when he would spend all week meeting with the tight ends only to spend most games working as an H-back trying to open holes for running back Rashard Mendenhall.
The Steelers haven't had a full-time fullback for five seasons, but new offensive coordinator Todd Haley used the position effectively as head coach in Kansas City, helping the Chiefs become one of the league's top running teams.
Johnson said he hopes the new job will help him extend his career.
